2018 is here and I bet your New Year’s resolution list has been ready for quite a while now.
December is the time to reflect on your past year’s behaviour and promise to make positive lifestyle changes. Now, the fact that you RECOGNISE some habits might need to go is a success on its own.
However, that itself will not help you stick to your resolutions throughout the whole year.
Follow these tips to make sure you will succeed this year.
Identify the right goals for YOU
Think of what changes will benefit you, not the people around you. If you do it out of the sense of self-hate or remorse or a strong passion in that moment, it doesn’t usually last long.
So don’t feel pressured into losing weight, if becoming fitter is what really want!
Make them realistic
Don’t aim too high and ignore reality – take your previous experience with resolutions into consideration.
Why did they fail?
We shouldn’t look at the New Year’s resolutions as the only time of the year when we can (or should) change our lifestyle. There are 12 months in a year, remember?
Keep them simple
Think of goals you can keep.
If you would like to eat healthier, try replacing dessert with something else you enjoy, like fruit or yoghurt, instead of seeing your diet as a form of punishment.
Break your resolutions into small chunks.
Set clear, realistic goals such as losing 5 pounds, saving £30 a month, or going for a run once a week.
Setting small, attainable goals throughout the year, instead of a singular, overwhelming goal on January 1 can help you reach whatever it is you strive for.
DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP
This is probably the most important advice one can give you.
Don’t give up on your goals completely because you had a cheat day.
Cheat days happen to the best of us. Besides, depriving yourself of literally everything guarantees failure.
So, have a doughnut every now and then.
